Lunar New Year

It has been about two weeks since the Lunar New Year took place. Lunar New Year also has another name known as the spring festival. This holiday is not a typical holiday that I generally celebrate, but I have heard about it due to many of my Asian friends that celebrate the holiday.

This year, I finally got the chance to see a small parade to commence the lunar new year in Chinatown NYC. I was able to see the dragon dance and buy dumplings that day. The streets were full of life as everyone was out celebrating the holiday, by decorating with many red decorations throughout the stores. Vendors were also selling cans of streamers to commemorate the holiday. People were preparing to open streamers and confetti that spread out all of the streets and sidewalks.

The color Red symbolizes good luck, so every house, store, or building will be decorated with red decorations.

Many people bought dumplings or spring rolls aka egg rolls (depending on the region in China) because they would eat it for every meal, every day.

This holiday also made me reminisce my trip to China. By traveling to many countries, I have learned to appreciate different cultures. Cultures have a variety of history to learn from as well as learning all of the different types of cuisines, customs, and traditions that tie along with the culture.

I remember dressing up in traditional clothing that was part of an opening gate ceremony in an ancient town in China. I felt like I was traveling back in time wearing those clothes. I love being emersed with the culture because it allows me to acknowledge what the country has to offer.

Even though the new year is over, I hope that everyone had a great New Year and that the new year will bring happiness, peace, and health.
