India is known for its spicy cuisine, the festival of colors, and of course, one of the wonder's of the world, the Taj Mahal. I visited India with the School of Business during spring break. India was unquestionably breathtaking to observe. I got to see both modern developed and undeveloped areas of India with my classmates. The most populated had the most tourists and the latest infrastructure. Some of the cities I got to visit when I was in India were Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Pune, and Jaipur.
When I arrived in Agra, I got to visit the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It has a remarkable structure with astonishing architecture. Stepping foot inside the exquisite palace was surreal. I also got the chance to celebrate the Holi Festival during my time in Jaipur with my classmates. It was an aesthetic experience to have witnessed.
My classmates and I threw many colorful powders and water guns at each other while listening to traditional Hindi music. We spent most of the time traveling from city to city by bus. Then we took a short plane ride from Delhi to Pune. When we arrived in Pune, we drove to an Elephant Sanctuary, where we got to learn interesting information about the Sanctuary.
We also got to learn the importance of treating animals with care, respect, and love. Before coming to India, I did not know that riding the elephant was harmful to the animal. Some people mistreat the elephants just to obey them and perform tricks and use them as a source of entertainment. After visiting the sanctuary, I learned to admire the animals from afar in their natural habitat. My classmates and I were lucky enough to be able to feed the elephants and pet them. Elephants are absolutely beautiful and intelligent creatures; it was an astonishing experience.
Before leaving India, my classmates and I got the chance to visit a local university called Amity University. We took a tour around the campus and got to meet the professors of the university. It took us about 2.5 hours to get out of the parking lot; the traffic in India is worse than traffic in Jersey or NYC. On the last few days of the trip, we went to TATA Motors and visited Turner Construction. After visiting the two companies, we came together for one last Indian meal. All of the women got to dress up in sarees. India is such a colorful and historical country full of life. I hope to travel to other places in India again one day.
